Summer Music Study Scholarships

Dear musicians and parents,

Summer music scholarships for private lessons and music camp are still available.  The Holland Band Parents Association (HBPA) along with the hard work of willing car washers were able to raise $1300 last August to support musical talent continuation over the summer break.  Scholarships are available in the amount of $150 for any returning HPS band student.

Deadline has been extended.  Please complete the attached application and submit to Mr. Hughes by April 3, 2014 or by mail postmarked by April 5, 2014 to HBPA, P.O. Box 1182, Holland, MI 49422.  (Signatures by Mr. Hughes and Mrs. Feenstra can be obtained by HBPA staff.)

Wooden Shoes and Dutch Caps

urlDear Parents and Students,

Although it may feel dreary and cold right now, spring is just around the corner. That means it is also time to prepare for Tulip Time! For those of you who are new to this process, this involves the purchase of wooden shoes and a dutch cap. These items need to be acquired before April 18 (the Friday after spring Break). The shoes can be purchased at a discounted rate of $27.00 when purchased at Nelis’ Dutch Village.  Bring multiple pairs of socks (I recommend at least 4) for the fitting and remember to mention that you are in the Holland High Band to get your discount. Dutch Village has asked that you please wait towards the end of spring break week to come in for your shoes if possible, as they need some time to sort out their new shipment.

The Dutch caps should be bought at Fields Fabrics and can also be purchased for 20% off (you will end up paying between 6 and 7 dollars). Students should be present when purchasing the shoes and hat so they can be sized appropriately. Upperclassmen may use the shoes and hats that they’ve used last year if they still fit, but you will also receive the discount if you choose to purchase a new pair. Students who have money in their student account from SCRIP may fill out a reimbursement form in order to have the money raised pay for the items.

Please also note our upcoming dates:

Monday, April 21: Spring Band Concert

July 30 – August 1: Pre camp rehearsals (incoming freshman, percussion, and color guard only)

August 4 – August 8: Band Camp

memorial_day_1Dear Parents and Students,

On Monday, May 27th 2013 the City of Holland will conduct it’s annual Memorial Day Parade.  The Holland Marching Dutchman will be performing at this year’s parade.

This event and day’s purpose is to honor our fallen heroes who have served our armed foces. Due to this fact, this is a required event for all band members.

Plans call for the Holland High School Marching Band to meet at the Holland Civic Center Parking lot at 8:45a.m. with the parade beginning at 9:30 a.m.  A more detialed itinerary will be available closer to the date of the parade.  The uniform for this parade will be band polo (tucked in), black pants, black socks, and black shoes.

If there is a conflict with this parade you will need to turn it in writing by Friday May 17th.  If you are not present at the parade you will have to do a make up assignment.  This is the same policy in place for missing any other performance.

ExclamationPoint-main_FullDear Parents,

As we are in the midst of Tulip Time.  Thank you to all parents who have already donated water. If you have not donated a case of water yet, we are still in need of 20 cases!  Please drop these off in the band room outside the uniform room.  We will be loading them on the truck Tuesday.  Let’s keep all the Holland Bands hydrated.
We are still in need of 1 parent to march with the 8th grade band on Wednesday and Saturday.  We are also in need of parents to hand out water on Wednesday and Saturday. You can sign up to help by clicking here.   It will take you to a previous post where you can easily sign up.
